💡 Want to find a great mentor? Here’s the secret: Be a mentor first.
The reason so many people struggle with accepting good advice is simple—they’ve never experienced what it feels like to give it. To truly value mentorship, you need to step into that role yourself. 🙌
Take Mike, for example. He can successfully coach his twins' soccer team because he once had a great coach who modeled what good mentorship looks like. It’s a cycle: the better we mentor, the better mentors we attract.
👉 How to develop your mentor mindset:
1️⃣ Offer guidance: Look for ways to help someone in your field or community.
2️⃣ Build relationships: Good mentorship is more than advice—it’s about connection and trust.
3️⃣ Reflect on your experience: What lessons from your own mentors can you now pass down?
💬 Next time you seek a mentor, remind yourself: Have you taken the time to offer what you’re asking for? Mentorship flows both ways, and by leading with generosity, you'll attract the right people into your life.
Transcript:
To find a great mentor, I believe that you have to be a mentor first, because the number one reason most people don't take good advice is because they've never actually given good advice to someone else, and they've never actually filled that relationship. Therefore they can never be a good mentor. Why is it that Mike can coach his twins as soccer team? Because he had, he had a good coach. Then you could realize, oh, man, I know what a good coaching relationship looks like.
