As real estate professionals, it’s easy to get caught up in industry jargon. Terms like “MLS” might be second nature to us, but for the average buyer, it can be confusing. Imagine someone waking up and thinking, “I wish I could see a house that’s not on the MLS!” Yeah... probably not. 🏡
💡 Instead of saying “not on the MLS,” try something relatable, like “not listed on Zillow.” Most consumers know what Zillow is and can instantly relate to that. By framing your message in terms that resonate with your audience, you create a smoother, more understandable communication experience.
🔔 Next time you’re marketing a property, remove the jargon and think about how you can frame it in a way that your clients will easily grasp.

The two things that most people do poorly is they have no framing and they use jargon. If a real estate agent says, Hey, this home is not on the MLS, no one knows what that means, because in our industry, colloquialism, we know what the MLS is. But the average consumer, when he started waking up in the morning saying, Hey, I wish someone would send me something off the MLS. Yeah, right, but it says it's like Zillow or she doesn't know the difference, but you said that, you said you said it right. So now you should say not on Zillow, yes is significantly better than not on the MLS. So small things that allow you to remove jargon allow you to frame the overall context, so the communication and marketing becomes significantly easier if you can remove jargon and frame correctly.
